Western Pacific received the Gold award in the “Over $10 Million” category for their work on the YVR26 – The Post South Tower project. This 24-month endeavor involved the tenant fit-out of the newly restored heritage Canada Post Office south tower building, including more than 500,000 sq. feet of new office space. The crew of more than 100 electricians worked tirelessly to overcome the challenges presented to them by the many electrical systems included in the complex design. Despite these difficulties, the Western Pacific team completed the project on schedule, achieving both the VRCA award and LEED Gold certification.

Additionally, the Waterfront Station Power Upgrade won Silver in the “$2 Million to $10 Million” category. Western Pacific performed the electrical scope of the design-build project, providing custom-tailored solutions to ensure the safety of crews and enable the SkyTrain system to remain fully operational during construction.

SkyTrain has nearly 18,000 network riders each day

Their team joined the project as a constructability partner at the start of the design stage. They provided course corrections to the original designs necessary for implementation in an operational SkyTrain environment, saving the client from schedule delays and additional costs. To compensate for the delayed procurement of electrical equipment that would have resulted from the alterations made to the plan, Western Pacific then created and implemented an incentivization structure for their manufacturers, successfully keeping the project on schedule.

Employing Safety by Design methodology, Western Pacific updated the aging equipment and electrical infrastructure to meet increasing power demand while keeping both the crews and roughly 18,000 daily SkyTrain network riders safe during the process. The project was so successful that companies are now implementing outlines of Western Pacific’s strategy in other projects.

A particular point of pride is their Superior Safety Record Award win in the “Trade Contractor 200,000+ Workhours” category. This was the company’s fifth year in a row receiving the recognition, which honors companies based on their WorkSafeBC statistics.

While high standards of workmanship, technical expertise, hard work, and commitment to safety are daily practices at Western Pacific, to receive recognition for them is an honour the team is proud to have been awarded and a testament to the company’s industry leadership.

Western Pacific is ready to bring award-winning expertise to your next commercial electrical construction project.
