Trans Mountain Expansion Project

Client Trans Mountain Corporation/EPCOR
Completion Date January 2022
Location Burnaby, British Columbia to Edmonton, Alberta

The Trans Mountain Expansion was an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) joint venture between Western Pacific and Kiewit that involved the installation of new pipeline and the use of existing pipeline between Burnaby and Edmonton. The project involved the design and construction of 14 different substation locations, two transmission lines, and over 30 distribution lines. System voltages varied from 138kV to 5kV, and the stations comprise a variety of air-insulated HV/MV equipment.

This project encompassed 980km of new pipeline, 193km of existing pipeline, and 12 new pump stations. This pipeline, designed to carry heavier oils or light crude oils, increases capacity from 300,000 barrels per day up to 890,000 barrels per day.
